本研究はウィリアムズ症候群の子どもにおける感覚処理障害の発達とともに個人差を横断的研究(実験１)と長期的研究(実験２)で調査した。実験１では、感覚処理スコアをクラスタ解析したところ2つのグループの存在が示唆された。実験２では、実験１で特定されたグループは発達過程において安定していないことが示唆された。特にどの発達時点においても感覚障害が重度のグループで顕著だった。さらに、ほとんどの子供は重度の感覚登録(sensory registration)の障害を両時点で経験しており、登録の障害がウィリアムズ症候群の子どもの発達過程を通じて感覚処理における主要な表現型であることを示唆している。可能性のあるメカニズム、限界と適用について議論する。
