本論文は、地域参加型アプローチを通じてウィリアムズ症候群成人患者向けの社会的スキルトレーニング遠隔プログラム(a distance-delivered skills training program for adults with Williams syndrome (SSTP-WS))の開発に関して記載する。6段階の開発フェーズを通して、研究チームはウィリアムズ症候群の成人患者、介護者、サービス提供者、教育者などから以下の情報を入手した。(a)トレーニングプログラムへの要望と取り組むべきトピックス(フェーズ1)、(b) SSTP-WSの初期草案(フェーズ3)、(c)介入パイロット研究(フェーズ5)、(d)研究結果の内容を提供するためのフィードバック(フェーズ6)。SSTP-WSの開発は結果的に、ウィリアムズ症候群コミュニティーの価値と、独特な認知や行動表現型をサポートするための要求と、発生率の少ないこの障害者集団の社会的特徴などを整合させた介入手法になった。
